About

Consumer Health Advocacy at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) aims to assist state regulators in advancing health, protecting insurance consumers, and achieving equity through oversight and regulation of health insurance and related products.

Consumer Health Advocacy at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) aims to assist state regulators in advancing health, protecting insurance consumers, and achieving equity through oversight and regulation of health insurance and related products.

Consumer Health Advocacy at the NAIC is carried out by independent Consumer Representatives who apply and are appointed by a governing board within the NAIC. Consumer Representatives represent diverse populations of consumers and bring an array of perspectives, lived experience, and subject matter expertise across a range of insurance access and regulation issues that span all lines of insurance. A number of Consumer Representatives specialize in health insurance regulation, and Consumer Representatives work collaboratively across areas of expertise and lines of insurance.

The NAIC works closely with Consumer Representatives to assist state regulators in regulators’ primary objective of protecting insurance consumers. The Consumer Representatives do not represent or work for the NAIC, and the views expressed here do not reflect the views of the NAIC. More information about consumer participation at the NAIC is available here.
